Architectural Membranes

Architectural membranes are the load-bearing skins of tensile structures: PVC-coated polyester (and, at the premium end, PTFE-glass) fabrics engineered to span between supports while resisting wind, rain, and UV. The material must do something ordinary building products never do — hold permanent tension, flex without fatiguing, and let designers shape light through the roof. That combination has made membranes the signature material of stadium canopies, airport roofs, and landmark entrances worldwide.
Design and Material Considerations
Membrane selection starts with the structural model. Double-curvature forms distribute load efficiently and suit PVC-polyester at moderate weights; flatter or larger spans push toward higher-tensile constructions or PTFE systems. Lacquer choice shapes long-term appearance: PVDF-type finishes keep the surface cleaner and slower to dull, which matters on highly visible architecture. Translucency is a design tool — PVC membranes typically transmit a useful share of daylight, softening interiors and cutting artificial lighting loads during the day.
Fire, Warranty, and Compliance
Public architecture carries regulatory weight. Most projects reference fire standards such as DIN 4102 B1 or the European EN 13501 classes, and membrane suppliers should provide test certificates rather than assurances. Review the manufacturer’s track record with comparable structures, and confirm that the welding system recommended for the fabric is the one your fabricator can execute — most field problems in tensile structures trace back to seam execution, not fabric choice.

Confirm tensile values (warp/weft) against the structural engineer’s demand numbers.
Agree the lacquer and colour early; these drive both aesthetics and dirt pickup.
Plan panel layout and seam direction with the fabricator before ordering.

Kezhibo supplies PVC-coated architectural membranes from knife-coating lines with the consistency that tension structures demand, supports FR-certified grades, and cooperates with fabricators on project-specific rolls. Backed by ISO 9001 certified production and export experience across Europe and Asia, we are comfortable working from engineer specifications or helping you translate a design concept into a fabric specification.
