Tarpaulin
“Tarpaulin” covers a wide range of sheet materials, from PE woven sheet at the economy end to heavy knife-coated PVC at the industrial end. What unites them is the job: a flexible, waterproof barrier that protects goods, ground, structures, and people. Choosing the right tarpaulin is mostly about matching material class to duty cycle — how long the cover lives outdoors, how much load it sees, and whether it needs to weld or only rope and grommet.
The Three Main Material Families
PE tarpaulin — laminated woven polyethylene. Light, inexpensive, and widely used for short-term covers, but heat-sealed seams and UV life are limited. Best where the cover is seasonal or disposable.
PVC coated tarpaulin — polyester base with knife-coated PVC faces. Weldable, durable, and printable; the standard for truck covers, shelters, and long-term outdoor service.
Specialty coated fabrics — TPU and TPU-adjacent constructions where flexibility at low temperature, abrasion resistance, or food/environmental considerations drive the choice.
Practical Selection Checklist
Start with exposure time: anything beyond a few months outdoors justifies PVC. Then weigh handling requirements — a cover that two people must rig daily should not be the heaviest grade available. Check grommet spacing and hem construction, because edges fail before fields do. For printed applications, confirm the surface is optimized for your ink system. Finally, verify fire performance against the regulation that applies in your market; public venues typically require certified FR material.
Kezhibo supplies the industrial end of this spectrum — PVC tarpaulins and related coated fabrics — alongside PE-based economy options for appropriate duty cycles. Every production batch runs under our ISO 9001 certified quality system, and our custom manufacturing service handles non-standard widths, colours, and treatments for distributors and fabricators. Tell us what the cover protects and how long it must last, and we will point you at the right construction rather than the heaviest one.
