Functional Film
Functional films are polymer sheets engineered around a specific active property rather than a general purpose: anti-slip surfaces, light-diffusing layers, barrier films, release surfaces, static-dissipative sheeting, and print-receptive tops. The “function” is the product — everything else about the film exists to deliver that property reliably, roll after roll.
Functions in the Coated-Fabric Context
Within coated and laminated products, functional films usually serve as the working surface or the enabling layer: a print-receptive film face on a banner substrate, a diffusing film between backlit layers, an anti-slip layer on walkway fabric, or a barrier film inside liner constructions. Getting these layers right is exacting work — a diffuser that transmits unevenly shows as hot spots in the finished lightbox, and a print film with inconsistent surface energy shows as banding across the roll.
Specifying by Function
Optical functions (diffusion, translucency) — demand measured transmission and haze values, not descriptions.
Surface functions (print, anti-slip, release) — agree the test method: ink adhesion, slip coefficient, or release force under your conditions.
Barrier and protective functions — define the medium and exposure time; “waterproof” is not a specification.
Electrical functions (anti-static, dissipative) — state surface resistance targets and the standard used to measure them.
Kezhibo integrates functional films into laminated and coated constructions through our production lines, and develops custom film-fabric solutions where a standard product does not deliver the required property. Our ISO 9001 certified processes document the measurements above — transmission, adhesion, resistance — so specifications are verifiable. Customers across Asia and Europe use us for both component supply and full custom development; tell us the function you need, and we will respond with a measurable proposal.
